Describe a science subject that you are interested in

You should say:
what it is
when you learnt about it
what you have known about it
And explain why you are interested in it

I’m going to talk about a science subject, Particle Physics, that has always fascinated me:
Particle physics, also known as High Energy Physics (HEP), is the field that studies the fundamental building blocks of matter and the interactions forces between them.
I first got into it during my undergraduate studies, but I only began learning the experimental part more systemically during my graduate program. That’s where my core focus began.
Particle physics focuses on understanding the fundamental interactions that make up the universe, as well as the elemental particles like quarks and leptons. The behavior and relationship of these particles and forces are described by a theoretical framework called the Standard Model.
However, my research is squarely in experimental particle physics, the pursuit of New Physics. For instance, my Master’s thesis focuses on searching for a dark photon in rare Kaon decay. This work involves analyzing massive data sets from accelerators and colliders with the sole purpose of finding any signs of New Physics that the Standard Model cannot explain.
The reason I am so deeply interested in this field is because it sits right on the frontier of human knowledge. It tackles the biggest, most fundamental questions: What is the universe made of? What is dark matter?
Working in this field is like being an explorer. We are constantly challenging technology and theoretical models to discover something completely new. The possibility of contributing to a major scientific breakthrough is what keeps me incredibly motivated and engaged.
