And explain why you would like to visit it again
Note
I am going to talk about a very unique city I visited last winter, which is Aomori City in the far north of Japan, and it’s definitely a place I want to return to.
The time I went there was last February with my best friend for a deep-winter experience. While exploring the city, we tasted local cider and many delicious apple products, as Aomori is famous for that. A key stop was a museum dedicated to local festival culture, where we saw huge Nebuta floats.
Aomori was spectacularly beautiful, completely blanketed in snow, but it was also a city of extreme challenge. Just before one of our day trips, the city was hit by an extreme snow disaster. This meant that when we tried to visit a famous Japanese castle, we found it was completely closed, having been badly damaged by the snow. However, the local people were incredibly kind. I remember the museum staff, being particularly warm, chatting with us despite the language barrier.
The reason I would definitely like to visit this city again is twofold: to mend my travel regret and to experience the drastic seasonal contrast. Firstly, I must go back and finally see that historic Japanese castle. Missing it due to the snow disaster was a huge regret. Secondly, and the museum staff actually strongly recommended this, I want to return in the summer for the Nebuta Festival. Experiencing the city full of colour and energy will be a total opposite to the silent, challenging winter I had. That genuine warmth from the locals makes me really want to go back and enjoy Aomori in its prime.
